Is it just about having 5 bars?

It's nice to think that if you see 5 bars on your phone you've got the best in mobile coverage for calls, texts and data. But perhaps there is more to it than that? This video explains why some phones might show just one bar whilst others are showing 5 bars: So it seems a lot of factors are considered in the the signal bar display, signal strength, noise level, amount of traffic on the frequency, even adjacent bands in operation can have an affect! Other things that can realise a big difference between the signal shown on handsets is...

Getting excited about the 5G roll-out - or not?

It seems everyday someone is talking about how 5G is going to roll-out a mobile communications revolution with, higher speeds, huge bandwidth, faster response time and access for billions of "IoT" (Internet of Things) devices from fridges to tractors with blistering fast communications. Or not? Who will benefit from the 5G roll-out and when / where are w liable to see this? To answer these questions we better look at the underlying technology. Our 4G communications use frequencies (in Australia) between 700Mhz and 2600Mhz. The lower frequencies were used by analogue television and were freed up when this was shut...

Want faster data? It's not all about signal

We frequently receive calls where people want faster data through their 4G router. Whilst we love selling antennas sometimes we'd rather advise the customer an antenna is not going to help much. Why would we do that? Data throughput relies on many factors, signal strength, tower features, congestion in the network, antenna orientation amongst others. If you've got 3 - 4 bars of 4G it's unlikely that you'll see improvement by increasing signal strength, BUT an external antenna using "MIMO" (Multiple IN Multiple OUT technology, can double speeds compared to a single antenna. How does that work? Essentially instead of...

No signal? No problem for Eris Electrical!

We were contacted by Eris Electrical to see what we could do on a property with NO phone signal around any of the buildings. Well normally that's a lost cause - you can't boost zero! 1000 x 0 is still 0!! BUT there was a high spot on the property, where there "might" be a bit of a signal. After a fairly detailed discussion we agreed that the Cel-Fi GO LPDA pack with MARS antenna  would do the job. We got the equipment packed and delivered the following day in Sydney. Over the weekend Eris Electrical mounted an impressive pole,...

More than $200,000 fine for owning an illegal booster! You are kidding!!

It's true, the fine for running an illegal booster seems ridiculously high. That is, until you think it through.. most of the el cheapo boosters advertised on Ebay and dodgy repeater sites simply "shout" their presence at the mobile phone tower. This can mean the tower "breathes" and may temporarily reduce it's footprint and coverage. So for someone on the fringe of that tower they may suddenly find themselves with no signal or a very high level of interference from the illegal unit. Now if they need to make a 000 call we could see lives in jeopardy. So suddenly...
